Earmarked budget of HK$10 billion by the Hong Kong government for establishing the proposed “InnoLife Healthtech Hub”
According to the Budget 2022-2023 announced by the Hong Kong government on February 23, 2022, the government proposed to earmark about HK$10 billion for establishing the “InnoLife Healthtech Hub” in the Hong Kong-Shenzhen Innovation and Technology Park (HKSTPC) at the Lok Ma Chau Loop. The first batch of buildings are expected to be completed by the end of 2024.
The Financial Secretary Mr Paul Chan said “With the 16 laboratories (comprising the Laboratory of Data Discovery for Health (D24H)) and the eight relevant state key laboratories [in the InnoLife Healthtech Hub] as the basis, we can pool together top notch research teams from all over the world and focus our efforts on research and development (R&D) work as well as global research collaboration in the field of life and health sciences.”
The proposed InnoLife Healthtech Hub will advance a wide spectrum of R&D work covering biomedicine, big data, and artificial intelligence and other areas related to life and health sciences, that will be applied to prevention, diagnosis, drug development, advanced treatment and rehabilitation. The earmarked budget is expected to support the Hub’s scientific research talents as well as its infrastructure and facilities such as hardware, clinical trials and data applications, with a view to enhance the capacity and capability of different partnering universities, and to build a more comprehensive industry chain.
