Infectious Disease Modelling Conference 2024 concludes
The Infectious Disease Modelling Conference 2024 (IDM 2024) successfully concluded in Bangkok from November 6-8, drawing over 300 participants from 30 countries to advance infectious disease modelling for public health policymaking. Chaired by Professors Joseph Wu (Scientific Committee) and Kathy Leung (Organising Committee), the conference provided a dynamic platform for academics, researchers, health professionals, and policymakers to exchange insights, with a strong focus on challenges in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). Professors Gabriel Leung, Mark Jit, and Marc Lipsitch respectively the Chief Scientific Officer Emeritus, Co-Investigator, and Scientific Board Member of the Laboratory of Data Discovery for Health were invited to speak in the conference.
With themes like policy-relevant research, capacity building in LMICs, and equitable access to modelling tools, IDM 2024 addressed global public health challenges, including region-specific issues and resource constraints. Conference highlights featured cutting-edge research presentations, panel discussions on Disease X preparedness, and early-career networking opportunities.
